Competition leaders Valleys brought Burnett Blues’ 10-game winning streak to an end in the U18s Toowoomba competition at the weekend.
The game was always going to be a big ask for the Blues as Valleys has only lost one game this season, and that was back in Round 3 against Warwick.
The South Burnett north team went down five tries to three, playing in sodden conditions against Valleys at home in Toowoomba.
At half-time, the Blues were just a converted try behind, 16-10, but the final score was 26-14.
Blues are still in second position on the competition ladder on for / against, helped by big wins in recent weeks against Burnett White and Goondiwindi.
Two other teams are also fixed on 24 points: Warwick and Pittsworth.
The Blues’ next game is against cellar dwellers Border (Stanthorpe) at Murgon Sportsground on Saturday (July 23).
Burnett White would do the Blues a big favour if they were to down Warwick when they take them on at the same venue.
Game times and venues are yet to be confirmed.
UPDATE July 19: Burnett Whites are playing Warwick in Kingaroy at 3:30pm on Saturday.

Two A Grade rugby league games were played in the South Burnett at the weekend.
On Friday night, the Murgon Mustangs defeated Nanango Stags under lights at Murgon Sportsground.
Nanango was in the lead 18-10 at half-time, but Murgon fought back in the second half to win 37-28.
Wondai Wolves were playing their last game of the 2016 season when the match against the Kingaroy Red Ants was stopped on Saturday night.
The undermanned Wolves can look back on this year as one where the club demonstrated its courage week after week.
Wolves’ player Michael Christensen will be cursing his luck, breaking in his leg in the last game of the season.
Christensen was taken by ambulance from the grounds and later transferred to Toowoomba Hospital.
The match, which was played on the same ground that had hosted the Mini Mod Carnival earlier in the day, was stopped seven minutes before half-time with Kingaroy ahead 38-6 due to the weather.
