A woman who was named “Pastellist Of The Year” by the Pastel Society Of Australia will be having her first South Burnett solo exhibition for two years next month.

Master pastellist Karol Oakley’s exhibition at the Kingaroy Art Gallery will give fans a rare opportunity to see works she’s never exhibited before, as well as see how her art has evolved over the last eight years.

“A Slice Of Life” will feature landscapes, waterscapes, seascapes, florals and still lifes showcasing local scenes, as well as subjects drawn from other locations.

Nearly all the works are executed in either pastels, oils or mixed media but there will be a few watercolours, too.

Karol said the exhibition will feature new works along with some from her private collection which have not previously been exhibited.

All the paintings were created between 2008 and 2016, and show the way her art has evolved during that time.

Karol lives in Nanango and is a full-time professional artist who also teaches locally, interstate and internationally.

She was named Pastellist Of The Year by the Pastel Society Of Australia in 2014 – the highest award the group can bestow – and her last solo exhibition in the South Burnett was at the Nimue Gallery two years ago.

“A Slice Of Life” will be officially opened on Saturday, August 6 at 6:00pm.

The exhibition will then remain on display from 10:00am to 4:00pm on weekdays, and 10:00am to 2:00pm on weekends, until August 30.

Admission to view it is free.

Karol will also be giving a guided artist’s talk on Sunday, August 7 between 10:00am and noon, sharing the inspirations and stories behind selected works in the down to earth manner she is known for.

Morning tea will be provided as part of the talk, and the gold coin donation entry fee will be donated to Wildlife Carers.
