The Wondai Wolves showed courage to put on three tries in the second half against Nanango

July 8, 2016

The Wondai Wolves’ horror season continued at the weekend with Nanango treating their A Grade rugby league game at Wondai as little more than a training run.

Player defections, retirements and injuries have decimated the Wolves this year but they have not given up despite their woes.

They showed courage again on Saturday even though the Stags racked up 70 points during their 80 minutes.

The fact Nanango let down their guard and allowed in three tries in the second half would have concerned their coach Spud Jones in the countdown to the semi-finals.

The half-time score was 38-0.

When the full-time siren sounded to put the Wolves out of their misery, it was 70-18.

A highlight for the crowd was the two tries scored by Nanango veteran – and Club president – Warwick Keating which even brought applause from the Wondai crowd.

But the home fans genuinely went wild just after the half-time break when Wolves’ player Ryan Stower took an intercept near his own line and ran the length of the field to put the ball down under the posts.

Nanango tries were scored by Drew Jackson (2), Dylan Gilliland (2), Warwick Keating (2), Lachlan Jones (2), Brent Greenslade (2), Pat McCallum, Rex Vaasa and Jamie Ballinger. Goals were kicked by Jordan Wilson (7) and Lachlan Jones (2).

Wondai tries were scored by Danny Alberts (2) and Ryan Stower. Goals were kicked by Aaron Bligh (2) and Clifford Edwards.
