UPDATE: LNP candidate Ken O’Dowd pulled further ahead of ALP rival Zac Beers as counting continued on Sunday.

Mr O’Dowd expanded Saturday’s 261 vote lead over Mr Beers to 391 on a two-party preferred basis as Australian Electoral Commission officials continued to count postal votes.

Senator Arthur Sinodinos and Deputy Prime Minister Barnaby Joyce both told ABC media on Sunday they were confident the LNP would retain both Flynn and Capricornia.

This would give the Coalition the final two seats it needs to form government in its own right.

There are still 5783 postal votes remaining to be counted in Flynn, and a final result will probably not be known until later this week.

UPDATE: LNP candidate Ken O’Dowd pulled ahead of ALP rival Zac Beers as counting continued on Saturday.

Mr O’Dowd now leads Mr Beers by 261 votes on a two-party preferred basis, with 5779 postal, absent, provisional and pre-poll votes waiting to be counted.

Mr O’Dowd’s turnaround is being fuelled by postal votes, where he is gathering 64 per cent on a two-party preferred basis against Mr Beers’ 36 per cent.

While the ABC still rates the seat as one of five still in doubt, it is now one of two seats that seem most likely to give the LNP the 76 seat total it needs to govern in its own right (the other seat likely to go to the LNP is Capricornia)
