Former Murgon Mustang Gavin Cooper looks set to make his State of Origin debut at the grand “old” age of 30.

Cooper has been picked in the squad for State of Origin III to replace Canberra player Josh Papalii who has an injured knee.

The North Queensland Cowboys’ second-rower had been a late call-up to the Maroons’ camp for Origin I but missed out on getting a guernsey.

It has been a big month for Cooper, who played his 150th game for North Queensland at the weekend … the 20-nil thumping of South Sydney.

Origin III will be played in Sydney on Wednesday week.

Maroons’ squad: Darius Boyd, Gavin Cooper, Cooper Cronk, Dane Gagai, Matt Gillett, Aidan Guerra, Greg Inglis, Jacob Lillyman, Josh McGuire, Nate Myles, Corey Oates, Justin O’Neill, Corey Parker, Matt Scott, Cameron Smith (capt), Johnathan Thurston and Sam Thaiday.
