If the secret of success in rugby league is training, training, training … the secret to success at school is pretty much the same: make every day count.
The Try for 5! initiative by the Brisbane Broncos and NQ Cowboys has been adding some incentives to the “every day, on time” message at Murgon State School.
It all paid off for the students of multi-age class Year 1/2 on Friday afternoon when former Kangaroo, State of Origin and Broncos star Justin Hodges dropped into the school bearing gifts.
Year 1/2 teacher Sarah Ridder said she was very proud of her 20 young charges.
The six and seven-year-olds had the best attendance figures for the term.
“There were a number of weeks with 100 per cent attendance. Their attendance is amazing,” she said.
Three times – for six weeks in a row – they topped the school’s attendance records.
To reward the children for their great effort, Justin presented each one with a signed football.
Each of the Year 1/2 students also enjoyed some one-on-one time with the star.
Ms Ridder said it was the first time the Try For 5! program had run at Murgon State School and it had been a great success.
