Year 10 students at St Mary’s Catholic College in Kingaroy embarked on a massive under-the-sea musical journey just five weeks ago … and the result packed the Maryknoll Centre on Wednesday night.
The project, to stage a performance of Disney’s “The Little Mermaid”, cut across five different subject areas: art, drama, music, dance and home economics.
The Year 10 students made the props and sewed the costumes, directed the choreography and even helped to teach younger students the songs.
The set was made in the Sr Dolores Carroll Trade Training Centre.
Students from Years 4-10 took to the stage on Wednesday night after just one dress rehearsal, and the large audience of parents and friends were extremely impressed with what they saw.
A big part of making the night happen was down to the tech crew, a group of students who managed the sound desk and lights.
Music teacher Jane Iszlaub said the South Burnett Musical Comedy Society, and especially Craig Reiger, had been a great help with the production, with students borrowing a lot of gear including microphones and lights.
She said the collaboration had been very successful.
Several students will now be appearing in the SBMCS’s upcoming production of “Little Shop Of Horrors”.
