It was a tough game for the Monto Roos but they kept on trying until the final hooter sounded

Monto Roos hopped home licking their wounds after a tough encounter against the Cherbourg Hornets at Jack O’Chin Oval on Saturday afternoon.

The visitors began well enough, and although behind on the scoreboard at halftime 24-12 looked still to be in the game.

But Cherbourg showed no mercy in the second stanza, scoring seven tries back-to-back before Monto could put any more points on the board.

Monto also managed a consolation try in the dying seconds, helping to make the final score look a little more respectable at 66-24.

Cherbourg tries were scored by Keith Walsh (3), Lewis Hopkins (3), Alex Speedy (2), Fred Cobbo (2), Carl Aubrey (2) and Malachi Wallace. Fred Aubrey kicked seven goals.

Monto tries were scored by Tyson Mitchell (2), Jared Dahtler and Grant Kenealy. Rhys Hawkins kicked four goals.

The referee was right on the spot for Keith Gadd’s try in the opening minutes of the game

  • U18s – South Burnett Blues 30 defeated Dalby 18 (at Cherbourg)

South Burnett tries were scored by Tareek Aubrey, Kahdeem Murray, Barry Tapau-Fewquandie, Ralph Gyemore and Steven Watcho. Goals were by Gyemore  (3) and William Langton (2).

Dalby tries were by Jay Bond (2), Bowdy Welldon and Chris Harwood. Hawwood kicked one goal.

  • U18s – Souths Tigers 42 defeated South Burnett White 10 (at Toowoomba)

Souths tries were scored by Junior Chong Nee (2), Tevita Cocker (2), Fabian Fo’ou (2), William Duncan and Fa’alolo Selemaia. Damian McIntosh kicked five goals.

South Burnett tries were scored by Logan Bayliss-Brow and Stephen Munt. Kirby Rubesaame kicked one goal.
