Karaoke songbirds should start practising their scales this week to get their vocal chords into good working order.
The first round of the Wondai Show Society’s “Regional Karaoke Sing-Off” will be kicking off at the Warana Hotel in Wondai this Friday night, June 24, and it is offering serious prize-money for the winners.
The Regional Karaoke Sing-Off is a new competition that will debut at this year’s Wondai Show.
It’s open to adult males, females and duos who live anywhere in the South Burnett, and there’ll also be a special section for children aged 8 to 15.
Four fortnightly adult heats will be held at the Warana Hotel between June 24 and August 5.
There’ll also be two afternoon children’s heats, which will be held at the Wondai Diggers Club on Sunday, July 17 and Sunday, August 7 between 12:30pm and 2:00pm.
Then the finals – which will select the ultimate winners – will be held at this year’s Wondai Show on Saturday, August 27.
The competition is being organised for the Show Society by Sue Bradley and Geoff Grevell from Love2Sing.
Sue and Geoff have run very successful karaoke nights in the South Burnett for many years, as well as performing in their own right as “The Stepping Stones”.
Sue said the adult heats, which will be held on alternate Friday nights, will allow competitors to re-enter if they are knocked out in any particular round.
“We have some very good karaoke performers in the South Burnett, so we think the standard will be high,” Sue said.
“And with $2500 in prize money up for grabs, we’re hoping the Show day finals will attract 24 adult finalists and eight children, which should ensure a really great night out.”
Participants in this Friday’s competition will need to register at the Warana between 6:00pm and 7:30pm, after which the sing-offs will run until late.
