The “official” opening of Murgon’s Bendigo Bank agency – located inside Struddy’s Sports – occurred last week with much fanfare.
The agency has actually been trading since April but Thursday’s opening was an opportunity for representatives from South Burnett Community Enterprise Limited (SBCE), the operators of the franchised local branches of Bendigo Bank, to take a look.
And as no South Burnett event would be complete without a sausage sizzle, a barbie was fired up on the footpath outside.
SBCE chairman Noel Strohfeld said the agency would provide Murgon residents, businesses and community groups with a locally owned banking option.
“The South Burnett community has already seen the benefits a local banking service can bring, both in terms of easy access to banking, and the reinvestment of profits back into the local community,” Mr Strohfeld said.
“The Murgon agency joins the family of branches that already includes Yarraman, Blackbutt and Nanango branches.”
A highlight of the opening was the presentation of a cheque for $35,493.60 to Graham Community House in Murgon.
The money will be used to buy a new car for Graham House’s Community Transport scheme. This latest vehicle will be based in Blackbutt to service residents in that area.
Mr Strohfeld and Leigh Dudgeon, from Struddy’s Sports, cut the ribbon to open the branch officially.
The Murgon agency is open from 8:30am to 4:30pm Mondays to Thursdays, and 8:30am to 5:00pm on Fridays.
