Former Murgon Mustang Gavin Cooper won’t be taking the field for the Maroons in State of Origin I after injured halfback Cooper Cronk was cleared to play.
Cronk rolled an ankle during training last week and had been in doubt.
Cooper was called on to join the Maroons squad in training in case Cronk didn’t recover in time.
However, a Maroons announcement on Wednesday morning confirmed Cronk had trained strongly on Tuesday and would be in the run-on side.
There has been speculation amongst NSW supporters that the cloud over Cronk’s fitness could have been part of a Queensland ploy to unsettle the Blues ahead of Wednesday evening’s clash.
