Mudjimba Women’s Safe House at Cherbourg is inviting the public to take part in two events to raise awareness about domestic violence and support victims.

The Safe House is run by UnitingCare Community and provides information and care for people escaping domestic violence.

Its annual March will be held on Tuesday, May 17, starting at 9:00am at the Cherbourg State School and all are welcome to attend.

Once again the whole school will participate with many community groups and community services also attending or supporting the event in some way.

The March aims to educate the children, raise awareness and show that the community will not tolerate Domestic Violence in any form. The March provides information on keeping safe and advocates for change in both challenging perpetrators and supporting victims.

In addition, Mudjimba Women’s Safe House will also hold its annual Candlelight Ceremony to remember those we have lost to domestic violence. This event will be held at the Safe House and all are welcome to attend.

The Candlelight Ceremony will be on Tuesday, May 10, starting at 10:00am. The event will include guest speakers, art projects, children’s activities, a balloon release and a closing BBQ.

All over Queensland, in our schools, sporting clubs, workplaces, neighbourhoods and communities people are taking up the “Not Now, Not Ever” challenge to put an end to domestic and family violence.

The campaign coincides with Domestic and Family Violence Prevention Month in May and recognises that everyone has a role to play in creating a Queensland free of domestic and family violence.
