The Nanango Stags are gearing up for a big Saturday of league action at Fred Kassulke Oval … and many happy memories.
It’s been 15 years – and a bit – since the Stags won the Premiership in the South Burnett’s rugby league competition.
But hopes are rising the side’s glory days could soon make a return.
This year’s Stags team are currently sitting at the top of the table on for-and-against, and coach Spud Jones has hopes his charges could go all the way to repeating the Stags’ memorable 2000 triumph.
This weekend the club are inviting everyone associated with the town’s winning 2000 Premiership side – both players and supporters – back for a reunion.
And naturally, there’ll be a big day of rugby league action waiting for them on the grounds.
Events will get underway with U6s and U8s games between the Stags and Mustangs at 9:00am, followed by U9s at 10:00am; U10s at 11:00am; and U12s at noon.
After this, the U14s Kingaroy Red Ants will play Chinchilla White at 1:00pm and then Nanango Stags U14s will take on Chinchilla Green at 2:00pm.
But the real action will occur in A Grade at 3:00pm, when the Stags play the Murgon Mustangs for season points.
A bar and canteen will be operating, and all past and present players and supporters are very welcome.
