Two innovations introduced at last year’s Burrandowan Picnic Races – a High Tea and Gourmet Luncheon Hampers – will be getting another run at this year’s race meeting on Saturday, May 14.
The High Tea – held in the race club’s historic hall – will be served at 3:00pm, while pre-ordered hampers will be ready for racegoers to pick up and enjoy trackside when they arrive.
Burrandowan Race Club secretary Carolyn Stone said both the High Tea and hampers were both very popular in 2015, giving patrons something a little bit upmarket on race day in a traditional bush setting.
“We wanted to offer something for groups of friends to enjoy together,” Mrs Stone said.
“So we created the High Tea featuring our favourite china, some welcome bubbles, and delicious sweet and savoury treats.”
Mrs Stone said the gourmet luncheon hampers were for those who find their days busier and would love to sit and enjoy a picnic style lunch without having to do all the preparation.
“We make it easy – you just pick up your hampers, complete with cutlery, and enjoy it with friends trackside!”
However, both the High Tea and Hampers need to be booked before race day.
Seats at the High Tea are $25 per person and can be booked by email. Hampers are $45 for 2 people or $85 for a 4 person hamper, and can also be ordered by email.

Mrs Stone said the Burrandowan Picnic Races are renowned for renewing old and creating new friendships, and the two features simply added to the atmosphere.
“We will also have our fabulous local service clubs providing great hamburgers and chips, manning our bar and assisting in all sorts of ways on the grounds.
“Our voluntary committee is also in full swing right now, preparing the grounds and ensuring everything looks fabulous on the day.”
Mrs Stone said all the usual attractions – Fashions Of The Field, the 5 race program, clay target shooting and the evening pit fired barbecues will be available.
“We have Kerry Kennedy and Double Barrel playing into the night, and the Kingaroy State High School Band will entertain after the last race.”
A shuttle bus will be running from Kingaroy on race day, and guests are welcome to bring their own swag and sleep the night at the race track at no charge.
