Detectives are hunting a man who held up a Kingaroy service station about 8:20pm on Thursday.

Acting Senior Sergeant Brad Johannesen, from Kingaroy Police, said the man entered the United Petroleum (Ryke Fuel)  service station, in River Road, armed with a large knife.

He demanded the male attendant open the cash register.

The employee complied and the offender escaped on foot with a sum of cash.

The bandit was wearing a balaclava, a hooded jumper, long pants and gloves.
