The Desert Pea will be returning to the South Burnett later this month, this time parking itself at Cherbourg.

The Federal Government’s colourful Mobile Service Centre truck is designed to help residents access information about government services, including Centrelink and Medicare payments and Child Support.

The Desert Pea will be at Cherbourg, opposite the Ration Shed, from 9:00am to 3:30pm on Tuesday, April 12.

“The Desert Pea is a truck set up as an office, with custom-built technology that allows people to access Medicare and Centrelink services,” Member for Wide Bay Warren Truss said.

“It is wheelchair accessible and has a soundproof room to allow staff to undertake free hearing checks.

“There will be a social worker from the Department of Human Services on board, as well as a staff member from the Australian Taxation Office who will be available to assist individuals and small business taxpayers with advice and information about tax and superannuation.

“I encourage local residents to come along and visit the Mobile Service Centre while it is in the area.”
