Two South Burnett cricket Grand Finals were played at the weekend with hosts Murgon and Kumbia both coming away with wins.
At Murgon Sportsground, the Grand Final of the A Grade Two-Day competition was played across Saturday and Sunday between the Murgon Crusaders and Kingaroy Warriors.
Crusaders won the toss and sent Warriors in for what turned out to be a fairly lop-sided contest.
The Murgon bowlers made short work of the Warriors’ line-up, bowling them out for 50 in just 19.2 overs in the first innings.
Top scorer for Warriors was Taylor Hermann with 18.
Jamian Currin (5/18 off 9.2 overs), Graham Brown (3/28 off 7 overs) and James McUtchen (2/3 off 3 overs) did the damage.
In reply, Crusaders set a daunting target of 233 in their 45.4 overs.
After taking five wickets, Jamian Currin backed up with the bat to top-score for the Crusaders with 52.
Lehman Brunjes (43) and Jared Sippel (39) also added to the Warriors’ woes.
Best of the Warriors’ bowlers were Taylor Herrmann (4/42 off 10 overs) and Luke Smith (2/57 off 10 overs).
Warriors started their second innings already 183 runs behind.
A change in the batting order saw opener Hayden Wieck, who scored a duck in the first innings, come in at number 3. This paid off with Wieck top-scoring with 43.
Unfortunately for the visitors, the only other batsman to make it into double figure was Steve Heness with 12.
The Warriors were all out for 104 in 40.2 overs.
Crusaders’ captain Graham Brown ripped through the line-up, taking seven wickets for just 18 runs off his 10 overs.
Tom Patton took 2/23 off nine overs.
A very happy Crusaders’ team won the inaugural Two-Day Shield by an innings and 79 runs.

B Grade Grand Final
At Kumbia, the South Burnett B Grade Grand Final saw the home team take on Kingaroy RSL Services in what turned out to be a closer game than the A Grade final.
The Rattlers, who haven’t hosted a grand final for five years, won the toss and sent Kingaroy into bat.
The visitors started strongly, and by the 20th over were 1/91 after opener Justin Labinsky was caught behind for 22.
Cody Bauer then joined Glenn Kelly at the wicket, and together the pair put on a 119-run partnership.
Bauer top-scored with 78 while Kelly was out for 53.
After a strong batting performance, Kingaroy finished with 9/215.
Warren Cross was the best of the Kumbia bowlers, taking 4/16 while Jayden Steinhardt starred behind the stumps, taking four wickets,
In reply, the Rattlers also enjoyed a strong start with openers Warren Cross (20 off nine balls) and Tavis Hartwig (80) piling on quick runs.
Number three Chris Medcalf then sealed the win for the Rattlers with his 62 runs.
Kumbia overhauled the Kingaroy target with both batsmen and overs in hand, finishing 6/219.
Cody Bauer was the best of the Kingaroy bowlers, taking 2/40.
Kumbia Rattlers are the B Grade Premiers for 2015-16.
