Alicia Pidgeon takes her electric razor to Mark Smith’s much-loved moustache
Mark’s wife Janelle gives the moustache a farewell kiss … or maybe a kiss for good luck

It took 41 years to grow and only seconds to remove … but Murgon businessman Mark Smith’s sacrifice was worth it on Wednesday.

Mark submitted to a razor wielded by Alicia Pidgeon, from Alicia’s Spa and Hairworx, to help raise money as part of the Leukaemia Foundation’s “World’s Greatest Shave”.

The shave and colour event was organised by radio CROW-FM and was broadcast live on the station.

Earlier in the day CROW-FM chairman John Box also was “shaved for a cure” by Alicia, losing the hair on his head and on his legs.

John’s granddaughter Violet is currently being treated for cancer, so John had his head shaved in unity – and raised $800 in the process.

He agreed to the leg waxing after another $300 was tossed in.

The final tally for Mark Smith’s effort is still being counted but is expected to be close to the $4000 target that Mark originally set.

UPDATE April 6:  All the dollars are now in and the exact amount raised was $4552.75!

Raising money for the Leukaemia Foundation is as easy as one, two, three … Mark Smith’s moustache in all its glory, Alicia added a little bit of colour, and then it’s gone!
CROW-FM announcer Shaz Birkett with Judy Kruger, from Murgon, who opted for some purple colouring to match her top; CROW-FM’s on-air crew escaped the razor and spray can this year but the station’s chairman, John Box, right, wasn’t as lucky, losing his locks and enduring a leg wax (ouch!)
