A 19-year-old man charged with kidnapping appeared in  Murgon Magistrates Court on Wednesday.

About 11:45pm on Tuesday, police pulled over a vehicle on Haly Street, Wondai, for allegedly speeding.

While police were speaking to the driver, a 19-year-old man – who was a rear seat passenger asked to use a nearby public toilet – before fleeing.

Police will allege the driver, a 17-year-old man, and 15-year-old girl who was a front seat passenger, then advised them the 19-year-old man had a handgun and they were fearful for their lives.

The pair told police they were at Glenwood, north of Gympie, when the man allegedly produced a handgun and demanded they drive him to Chinchilla.

Further inquiries by police indicate a third passenger also feared for his life, and asked to be dropped off near Gympie before contacting Triple Zero.

At 1:00am, a police patrol in Mackenzie Street, Wondai, located the 19-year-old man, from Walligan near Hervey Bay.

He was taken into custody and charged with two counts of deprivation of liberty and dangerous conduct with a weapon.

He has been remanded in custody to re-appear in Murgon Court on April 26.
