A 27-year-old South Burnett man has been charged after two bizarre incidents in Noosa Heads on Tuesday.

The man, from Charlestown near Wondai, has been charged with assault occasioning bodily harm, public nuisance and obstructing police.

A police spokesman said a woman walking down a street with a friend, and a man sitting outside a restaurant with his young daughter, were the victims of unprovoked assaults.

Police were called to Lanyana Way, Noosa Heads, about 6:00pm following reports a man had attempted to smash his way into a restaurant.

The spokesman said the man fled the scene but was arrested a short time later while walking down the street.

Police investigations indicated that immediately prior to this incident, the man had been at a hotel in Sunshine Beach Road.

The man walked out of the bar and walked up to two women who were crossing a street; he allegedly punched one of the women on the back of the head.

He then kept walking through back streets, until he came across a 33-year-old father sitting outside a restaurant with his young daughter.

Police will allege the man approached the father and punched him in the face, splitting the man’s lip and causing it to bleed.

The father grabbed the man but he broke free and walked away, only to return a short time later.

The family sought refuge inside the restaurant and called police as the man allegedly tried to force his way inside by hitting at a glass door with a broom handle.

Police are yet to identify the woman who was allegedly assaulted.

The Charlestown man is due to appear in Noosa Magistrates Court on March 29.
