Police are warning people about a new email scam targeting internet users in Queensland.

The scam involves victims opening an email which indicates they have broken the law and are being issued with a subpoena to attend court.

When users click on a link they are directed to a Russian webpage where they are prompted to download an executable application which infects their computer.

Policelink has received a large number of calls this week about the email scam.

Police are urging anyone who receives an unsolicited email with unusual or suspicious content not to click on any links or reply to the email but instead simply delete it from their inbox.
