Police called to reports of disturbance on Friday night in Chinchilla were forced to twice taser a man, with one of the probes striking him in the eye.

A police spokesman said that just before 11:00pm, police were called to a residence on Zeller Street after reports of a man armed with knives and making threats.

Police say they began to negotiate with the man, who was highly agitated, from outside the house but he then allegedly picked up a knife and ran towards police through a security screen.

“Police deployed a single Taser cycle, but the man then attempted to pick up another knife, resulting in police deploying a second Taser cycle,” a police spokesman said.

“During the incident, the man was struck in his left eye by one of the Taser probes.”

The man was restrained by police and then taken to Chinchilla Hospital for treatment. On Saturday morning he was transferred to the Princess Alexandra Hospital in Brisbane for further treatment.

Police Ethical Standards Command will overview an investigation into the incident.
