The “Day For Lynda” on Sunday has raised more than $4600 and proved once again how well-loved the late Lynda Geiger was in the Kingaroy community.
The Commercial Hotel’s beer garden and nightclub area were packed all day with people enjoying food, drinks and raffles.
The mover and shaker behind the day was Michelle Larney, who was a very good friend of Lynda and works at The Commercial.
Lynda died from melanoma in November last year after living with the disease for 16 months.
All funds raised are earmarked for the Melanoma Foundation, a cancer awareness group which launched the Lynda Geiger Young Mums Program while Lynda was still alive, and which she proudly supported.
Foundation CEO Brett Otto said on Sunday night the day had raised $4651.
He said there had been no limit to the generosity of Kingaroy businesses: “We were inundated with raffle prizes.”
Lynda’s husband Darren agreed: “We had seven pages of sponsors!”
A special item donated was an autographed Relay For Life purple cricket ball which was put up for auction. Sarah Shadforth’s winning bid was a generous $1075.
The Giving Tree Cafe in Kingaroy also donated three special hand-made cakes for the day.
Brett said the Melenoma Foundation wanted to especially thank Michelle Larney and Tim Harris, from The Commercial Hotel, for their support.
The next big fundraiser for the Foundation will begin on April 21 in Gladstone when Brett sets out to walk 470km to Kingaroy, raising funds along the way.
He is due to arrive in Memorial Park, Kingaroy, on May 15.
