BreastScreen Queensland’s state-of-the-art digital mobile service visit to Kingaroy Hospital has been extended to February 5.

The service was originally scheduled to leave town on January 29 but due to high demand for free screenings it will remain onsite for an extra week.

“It is wonderful to see that the service has been so popular with local women,” Health Promotion Officer Shenaed Bliss said.

“It was decided to accommodate these women by extending our stay for an additional week.”

Ms Bliss said the mobile service visited rural locations every two years, offering free breast screens to women aged 40 years and over.

“This is a great opportunity for eligible women in Kingaroy and the surrounding areas to have either their first breast screen or to come in for their regular two-yearly screen,” Shenaed said.

“We know that early detection of women’s cancers provides the best chance of survival and quality of life, so if you haven’t been keeping up-to-date with these important checks, now is the time to do so.”

A doctor’s referral is not needed to book a breast screen through the mobile service.

Appointments can be made by calling 13-20-50.

“Having a breast screen is a quick and easy, and usually doesn’t take any longer than 30 minutes,” Shenaed said.

“With the start of a New Year, now is the right time to make your health a priority in 2016.”

Access to the BreastScreen Queensland Mobile Service at Kingaroy Hospital is via Albert Street.
