Kingaroy residents connected to the Gordonbrook water supply may face water restrictions in late January or early February.
Water and Wastewater Portfolio chairman Cr Barry Green told Wednesday’s Council meeting that work on the $7.5 million Gordonbrook Water Treatment Plant upgrade was almost complete.
Contractors Aquatec Maxcon are now working on a commissioning plan, and based on the project’s current timetable the new plant should be put into commission in seven to eight weeks.
Some temporary restrictions may need to be put in place to manage Kingaroy’s water supply at that time, Cr Green warned.
Meanwhile, work on the new $20 million Kingaroy Wastewater Treatment Plant is continuing, with the bulk of civil structures complete.
Walkways and other structures are now being installed and the new plant on River Road is starting to take shape.
Aquatec Maxcon will begin refurbishing two primary settling tanks in the New Year, and the project remains on schedule.
Later in the meeting, Councillors awarded an $881,820 tender for an upgrade to Murgon’s Water Treatment Plant to M2O Water Pty Ltd.
Cr Green said he hoped work on the project would begin early in 2016 and be finished by the end of June.
The Council originally budgeted $550,000 for the work.
