Kingaroy residents connected to the town water scheme have been asked to conserve water in the wake of the weekend storms.

The Kingaroy Water Treatment Plant was damaged when it was struck by lightning on Saturday evening.

As a result, key components of the plant are being manually operated.

The South Burnett Regional Council has asked Kingaroy residents to reduce the demand for water by limiting any non-essential water use.

A Council spokesperson said it was hoped repairs would be completed by the end of the week, depending on availability of spare parts.
