Growcom and the Burnett Inland Economic Development Organisation (BIEDO) are joining forces to provide some social cheer, support and information to agricultural producers in the South Burnett next week.
The two organisations are inviting fruit and vegetable growers, farmers and graziers to two free barbecue and information evenings in Kingaroy and Goomeri.
While the main focus is to provide support and assistance to agricultural producers suffering from drought, the organisations also want to raise some discussion about export opportunities on the back of the first freight flight from Wellcamp Airport near Toowoomba to Asia this week.
“With ongoing drought conditions affecting the region, this event aims to help growers catch up with other producers to maintain their community networks and tap into available support and assistance,” Jane Muller from Growcom said.
“I will be on hand to update growers about the broad range of projects, services and lobbying work Growcom does on behalf of the horticulture industry.”
Growcom director Sue Allen, a table grape grower from Mundubbera, will be on hand to meet growers from the region to discuss local issues and needs.
“Growcom would like to forge stronger links with horticulture growers in the South Burnett. Stone fruit growers near Kumbia, avocado growers near Blackbutt, vegetable growers near Mondure and Goomeri – we’d love to hear from you about your production challenges and opportunities,” Sue said.
“Those agricultural producers who are thinking about getting into horticulture – what opportunities and constraints do you see that Growcom may be able to tackle for you?”
BIEDO will outline available drought services and support, and how growers can access assistance.
“We hope growers and other agricultural producers are able to take time out of their busy schedules to join us for a meal and a chat,” Jane said.
The two events are free and will be held from 6:00pm to 8:00pm.
The first will be at the Kingaroy Town Hall Supper Room in Glendon Street, Kingaroy on Wednesday, December 2; and the second at the Goomeri Bowls Club in Moore Street, Goomeri on Thursday, December 3.
For catering purposes, growers can either RSVP to Growcom on (07) 3620-3844 or BIEDO on (07) 4169-5456.
