Cheers and applause erupted from the crowd of spectators lining Gore Street on Friday night when Shane Dynevor emerged from the car that had ferried him and Shajuana Button to Murgon Town Hall.
Shane had decided to take a decidedly deadly approach to the annual Year 12 Formal, and the crowd obviously appreciated his sense of tradition.
Shane and Shajuana’s appearance at the end of an hour-long parade of vehicles capped off a stylish display as the Class Of 2015 made its way indoors for an evening that marked the end of high school.
Spectators packed both sides of the road in the late afternoon heat to watch the elegantly attired guests arrive.
As usual, the cars that brought the (now former) students to the Town Hall provoked almost as much interest as the gowns and suits their occupants were wearing.
Old favourites, such as Harvy Dascombe’s beautifully restored 1928 Buick and the Kratzmann family’s rugged military vehicles rubbed shoulders with limousines, SUVs and an array of brightly polished sedans, trucks and hot rods.
As the students stepped onto the street, they were greeted by a horde of photographers, including their proud relatives and friends.
But Murgon State High School staff ensured the arrivals ran to a tight schedule, and the 40 vehicles in the parade – and their occupants – were processed into the Town Hall in barely 60 minutes.
