The weather completely disrupted bowls matches around the region over the last few days.

On Friday, a severe weather alert cancelled Yarraman’s program, and even cancelled the members draw in the clubhouse when two hailstorms rolled up.

Saturday’s memorial trophy event in Yarraman suffered too.

Other clubs had suffered similar last-minute cancellations due to the inclement weather, which has meant that bowls news is a little bit thin on the ground this week.

All the same, some matches did manage to get going amongst the storm clouds and downpours.

A highlight of the past week’s activities was Nanango’s two day Men’s Rose Bowl last weekend.

The greens were packed, and teams came from near and far: Kallangur, Pine Rivers, Caboolture and Crows Nest, as well as most South Burnett clubs along with players from the North Burnett.

Five games of 16 ends were played, and scoring was awarded to wins won plus ends won.

The top six teams received prize money.

Three teams went through the competition winning all five games, and the score-board was interesting.:

A team from Kingaroy Ladies waved the South Burnett flag when they scooped the major prize at the Bongaree Ladies One Day Carnival on Bribie Island.

The Carnival was played over 3 games of 15 ends. with scoring being wins and margins.

The team comprised Charmaine Macleod, Bronwyn Grant, Aymee Bellart (from Gayndah) and Di Reed. Aymee Bellert is going to be joining Kingaroy club next year but at present is a member of Gayndah club.

The beginning of a new month saw Sunday Social bowls, and two games of Triples were played:

  • Fred Keding, Alan Irwin and Val Jeppesen def. Des Richards, Gladys Slatter and John Coppard 23-12
  • Maree Millard, Bob Bougoure and Beryl Woods def. Brigitte Kung, Maureen Semgreen and Col Kratzman 25-15

Melbourne Cup day was Ladies Trophy Day, and one game of Fours and a game of Triples were played.

The trophy was given for the highest winning score:

  • Des Richards, June Olsson, John Lacey and Beryl Woods def. Bessie Thorp, Norma Rook, Bob Bougoure and Val Jeppesen 26-20
  • Marjorie Moore, Ray Maclaren and Val Crawford drew Gladys Slatter, Col Kratzman and Maureen Semgreen 22-22

On Thursday there was no sign of weather problems and twenty-four bowlers rolled up for triples.

Scoring was four points for the win and one point for each end won.

Results in winning order:

  • Peter Neilsen, Bob Bougoure and Ray Maclaren (17) def. Harry Read, Bob Hammond and Stephen Carland (8) 24-13
  • Fred Keding, Alex Callender and Kevin Raffin (16) def. Geoff Clutterbuck, Dave Barwick and Ross Olsson (8) 19-12
  • Darcy Munroe, Hugh Harrison and John Coppard (14) def. Des Richards. Paul Merrychurch and David Clapperton (11) 24-23
  • Col McBride, Gladys Slatter and Alan Irwin (14) def. Wanda Carland, John Lacey and Bruce Johnston (10) 17-16

Kingaroy Bowls Club will be holding its three day Kingaroy Men’s Bowls Carnival from Friday to Sunday November 13-15.

Friday will be Men’s Pairs, and the weekend will be given over to Men’s Fours.
