Health Minister Cameron Dick has unveiled a plan to hire 19 more nurses for the Darling Downs Hospital region over the next four years.
He said the rollout of the new “Nurse Navigator” positions would begin early next year.
“These Nurse Navigators will ease a patient’s journey through our health system, ensuring they are supported and receiving the best possible care, in a timely manner,” Mr Dick said.
“It’s a progressive model of care for our public health system and puts the focus back on patients where it belongs.
“This initiative is designed to get people through the system quicker and to prevent readmissions. This is in the best interests of patients and our health system.
“We have been consulting closely with the Darling Downs Hospital and Health Service and nurses and doctors on the ground to ensure we get the model right.”
