Judy Hyde, from the Gold Coast, was hurrying back to her car as the storm clouds threatened

The crowds at Wondai’s Spring Garden Expo started to thin out as the storm clouds threatened on Saturday afternoon, but no one was complaining when the rain started to fall … they’re gardeners after all!

The Wondai Garden Club holds two two-day Garden Expos at the Wondai Sportsground every year, welcoming Autumn and Spring.

The Spring show has traditionally been the larger of the events, but with the Autumn show rapidly becoming more and more popular, this may not be the case for much longer.

Stalls selling everything from cactii to fruit salad were spread throughout the grounds on Saturday and Sunday.

Inside the hall the winning entries in the gardening competition took pride of place next to a colourful display from the Wondai Garden Club.

Guest speaker at the Spring Expo was gardening expert Geoffrey Robinson, from Caboolture.

Musical entertainment was provided by the “Stepping Stones”, well-known Wondai entertainers Sue Bradley and Geoff Grevell.

The Wondai Garden Club’s own display was titled ‘Around The World In 80 Gardens’ and featured an array of model animals peeking out from amongst the foliage and flowers
