Visitors to the Wondai Regional Art Gallery this month will be able to see an exhibition of contemporary art created by Cherbourg’s Yidding Artists group.
The exhibition originally made its debut at the Gympie Regional Gallery in March, and is now being seen in the South Burnett for the first time.
The Yidding Artists group was formed by well-known Cherbourg artist and musician Robert “Rocko” Langton, a full-time cultural worker for Cherbourg’s historical precinct, and also the chairperson of Budburra Books.
Yidding Artists members include Venus Rabbitt, Michael Chapman, Craig Hopkins, Sarah Reynolds, Jennifer Hart, James Hopkins, Robyn Langton, Brian Fisher and Vinnie Conlon.
The group regularly meet at The Ration Shed Museum, and some of their works are available in the Ration Shed Museum’s Gift Shop.
Many Yidding Artists have works in the current exhibition, which provides an overview of the wide diversity of styles its members pursue.
The Gallery also has two other striking exhibitions on show this month.
The Front Gallery is featuring a collection of digital artworks created by Blackbutt artist Trevor Wilkinson – many as photographic prints, and some on canvas.
Trevor has been pursuing digital art for almost ten years.
The Front Gallery also has displays of ceramics that have been carefully painted in underglazes, wax metallics and various glazed finishes.
Meanwhile, the Rear Gallery is housing a photographic display by South Burnett photographers Jenny Ball and Geoff Grevell – some mounted on canvas, some displayed as prints, and others etched into metal.
The photographs feature culture, wildlife and landscapes.
Kidz Korner, meanwhile, features works created by students from Murgon State School.
- “Yidding Artists Of The Ration Shed”, “Trevisions” and “Friends in Photography” will remain on display at the Wondai Regional Art Gallery on the roundabout at Wondai from 10:00am to 4:00pm daily until the end of September. Admission to view them is free.
