The Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service will be conducting a planned burn in Benarkin State Forest on Tuesday (September 15) – weather permitting – as part of the annual hazard reduction/conservation management program.
As a result, smoke may be seen on the D’Aguilar Highway in the Benarkin area.
Traffic control will be in place along the highway between Benarkin and Old Esk Road.
Delays can be expected.
The aim of this burn is to reduce the volume of forest fuels and to create a mosaic pattern of burned and unburned areas.
This will help reduce the intensity of any subsequent wildfires and provide favourable conditions for natural forest regeneration.
