If you’re not living on a farm, you may think the drought is over … but it’s not, and the stress is still taking its toll on many local families.
Earlier this year, the South Burnett Regional Council was successful in receiving a grant from the State Government for drought support.
Since then Council has been working with groups in seven local rural areas to deliver a community function in each to build local community connection and resilience.
Kumbia was one of the first towns to embrace the idea and held its “Down With Drought” event on Saturday night.
A committee was set up, which consisted of Cr Ros Heit and members of the Kumbia Hall Committee, the Kumbia Kindy and the Kumbia Progress Association, to plan the function.
Cr Heit said 150 local residents enjoyed a delicious meal and shared in a range of lucky door prizes.
“Each family took home a goodie bag with information on sourcing support as well as a first aid kit,” Cr Heit said.
“A licensed bar was run by the Kumbia hotel with all profits going back to the three Kumbia groups.
“The Rantan band provided the entertainment and a fabulous time was had by all.”
