Red Earth Community Foundation is running a free training day next week for committee members of South Burnett not-for-profit community groups – but you must register today! (September 3).
Brisbane-based lawyer Heather Watson, a partner with McCullough Robertson, will be sharing her knowledge of governance law with participants.
The Not-For-Profit Governance Day is being funded by the Foundation for Rural and Regional Renewal (FRRR).
“Taking on leadership positions in our community groups also brings with it responsibility,” RECF chair Georgie Somerset said.
“This day is for people to learn and also ask questions of someone who understands the charitable and not-for-profit legal environment.
“Our community can’t function without our volunteers, and while the laws are there to protect us all, they can be overwhelming at times, so this is a day to gain a better understanding.
“We are fortunate to have Heather with us for the day as she has broad experience across the non-profit sector.
“Her expertise covers aged health and community services, affordable housing and Indigenous communities.
“Heather focuses on establishing and restructuring legal and tax entities for charitable and non-profit organisations, advising Boards on risk and governance-related issues and establishing charitable foundations.”
The Governance Day will run from 9:00am to 3:00pm on Tuesday, September 8, at the Town Common Hall, Oliver Bond Street, Kingaroy.
Cost is free and lunch will be provided.

Would have liked to have attended but only just read about it. Was it advertised? We’re ‘Not for Profits’ advised it was on?
First we heard about it was today, John, but as we suspect there are probably other people in the same position, we suggest contacting Amy tomorrow ….
Unfortunately in Brisbane Tuesday. Member of 12 ‘Not for Profits’ in the South Burnett and none of them were advised. Disappointing.
