South Burnett Southern SES Local Controller Arthur Dawson inside the new $160,000 Nanango SES shed

Nanango SES has completed the move into its new $160,000 storage shed in Grey Street, with the last items being transferred across at the weekend.

South Burnett Southern SES Local Controller Arthur Dawson said the new storage shed had room for all the unit’s emergency equipment, vehicles and floodboat.

The old shed, in George Street, was full of termites and dry rot and was no longer suitable for storing equipment.

Mr Dawson said the new shed also had another advantage … it won’t be threatened by flood waters.

“In the 2010-11 and 2013 floods, the waters came up to the old shed,” he said. “We were concerned that if we had a bigger flood, the shed would have been inundated.”

The State Government and the South Burnett Regional Council assisted with the project, as did generous donations from local businesses.

The 17m x 11m shed is fully insulated and has been built on Council-owned land.

Mr Dawson said the SES would be applying for more grants now to build an office on the site as well as extend the fencing.

The new shed is fully insulated and has plenty of room for all the Nanango SES’s equipment
