Time marches on, doesn’t it? And there was certainly plenty for Past President’s Day bowlers to reflect on when Yarraman Bowls Club members played on Saturday.

Five past presidents nominated teams, and some of them had served more than one term in office.

For example, Yarraman’s current President Neil Johnston previously served in 2010 and 2011.

Johnston took over the chair when previous President Horst Meyer suddenly vacated and moved to a neighbouring club.

The club’s Honour Board shows a list of Presidents over 60 years, starting with Ed Wendt who operated the Yarraman Cinema. He was President in 1963-64.

Nanango President Henry Bleisner brought a team down from the neighbouring club.

Ian Mowat, who was President in 1999, came up trumps in the two round competition to honour Past Presidents.

His team included Robbie Douglass, Lorri Holmes and Kerry Knowles.

They waltzed away with the trophy, scoring two wins and 28 points.

Their second round win clinched the prize – it was outstanding, and at one stage they led 17-0.

Runners-up were Brian Dugdell’s team with two wins and 27 points.

Kilcoy News:

Kilcoy bowlers have earned plenty of frequent traveller points in the past few weeks – and what a winning streak they’ve had with their travelling!

On Wednesday, August 19 Bill Edwards, Jeff Welden and Terry Pratten took out the day at Woodford Bowls Club.

Soon afterwards a mixed team of Liz Frawley, Phyl Coffee, Pauline Lawson and Darrell Coffee brought home the winners’ prizes from a friendship day at Gatton.

And not long after that. the ladies pennant teams outplayed Solander Lake in the rain.

This match had to be played as the placings in the competition depended on the result.

Solander needed to win to take first place in the comp, while a Kilcoy win would see the pennant go to Glass House Mountains.

Sadly for Solander Lakes, the Kilcoy teams won convincingly.

And when Bill Edwards, Leigh Irwin, Jeff Welden and Harold Alford travelled to Dayboro on Sunday, August 23 they came home with the winner’s trophy.

The following day the same men visited Maleny for a pairs competition. Leigh Irwin and Harold Alford came away winners with Bill Edwards and Jeff Welden taking runners up.

Well done to all these players!
