The RACQ CareFlight Rescue helicopter was involved in a dramatic winch rescue in the Brooyar State Forest, near Widgee, on Saturday morning.

At 10.30am on Saturday, the Maroochydore-based helicopter was despatched to help a rock climber.

It is believed the man, aged in his late 30s, was climbing a sheer rock face along with a number of other people when he lost his grip and fell up to eight  metres.

He suffered multiple lower limb fractures as a result of the fall.

As the accident site was surrounded by thick bush, the CareFlight intensive care paramedic and flight doctor were winched down to treat the patient.

The CareFlight medical crew worked with Queensland Ambulance Service paramedics to treat the patient at the scene, before he was winched into the helicopter.

The man was flown to Nambour General Hospital in a stable condition.
