The junior Eagles looked eager and Murgon Showgrounds looked a treat for the kick-off on Monday morning of the 50th anniversary 43kg junior rugby league carnival.
This is the first major event held at the grounds since the South Burnett Regional Council recently finished refurbishing the grandstand.
Teams from across Queensland and NSW are taking part in the competition, which will run all week.
Visitors are staying at the grounds and in Murgon.
The Carnival began with a march past of all teams and then the official opening ceremony.
Cr Kathy Duff thanked the organisers for choosing Murgon to host the event, and the visitors for helping to boost the local economy.
She then urged the young footballers to “play well, play hard and play fair”.
Barry Fisher, from Cherbourg, welcomed everyone on behalf of the traditional owners.
