A Year 12 mooting team from Kingaroy State High School will be competing in the finals of the Bond University competition on Saturday.

Zoe Basham, Mikhaela Williams and Tahnia Miller won the Toowoomba Regional round and a Merit Advocacy award.

This qualified them to compete on the Grand Final at the Bond University campus.

They will be up against Hillcrest Christian College in the first round.

Kingaroy State High School has also had two other mooting teams competing in competitions this year.

A Year 11 team consisting of Nathan Fairbairn, Kelly Hollier and Breeanna Carroll contested the first round in the knockout University of Southern Queensland competition, but lost to Centenary Heights.

A Year 12 team (Tahnia Miller, Charlie Plant and Liana Haak) made it through to the quarter finals in the same competition before losing to a team from St Joseph’s, Toowoomba.

Footnote:  A moot is a legal argument conducted by opposing teams before one or more judges. The contest is decided by assessing the advocacy skills of the participants, rather than on the merits of the case. It challenges students to prepare, articulate and defend complex arguments in order to solve problems.
