One of our local clubs to benefit from the Get In The Game funding program was the Kingaroy Netball Association; the program allowed them to resurface their courts

Many sporting clubs around the South Burnett had been keen to know if the ‘Get In The Game’ funding program would be continuing.

On behalf of sporting clubs across Queensland, the LNP Opposition called on the Government to re-commit to this hugely popular program.

And it is pleasing that it has now been announced that ‘Get in the Game’ will indeed go ahead.

I’d encourage all sporting clubs to consider these grants as a great way to encourage membership, grow your volunteer base and upgrade your facilities and equipment.

I’m also really glad to see that the ‘Get Started’ sporting vouchers have also been retained, with the most recent round re-opening on 15 July.

Here are the opening dates for Round 6:

  • Get Started Vouchers – July 15
  • Get Going Clubs – August 3
  • Get Playing Places and Spaces – August 3
  • Get Playing Plus – September 1

The Kingaroy Rotary Club invited me along to their annual Changeover Dinner

Thank You, Rotary!

I’d like to thank two of our local Rotary Clubs – Kingaroy and Tabinga – for inviting me along to recent club meetings.

These clubs do so much for our community and I was pleased to be able to support them.

Kingaroy Rotary invited me along to their yearly Changeover Dinner, and Taabinga Rotary to a special dinner they organised to help raise funds for the Western Drought Appeal.

They did a wonderful job, raising more than $1500, and I was able to provide them with an insight into the Queensland drought situation following tours I’ve made in my capacity as Shadow Minister for Agriculture.

I really appreciated the opportunity to help link our South Burnett community to our cousins doing it tough out west.

KSHS students in action during their ECOMAN program presentation

Economics Alive And Well At Kingaroy High

Congratulations to Kingaroy State High School students and their teacher, Mr Damian Nicholson (Business Coordinator), who were involved in another successful Economics and Management extension program (ECOMAN).

ECOMAN is a program for high school students designed to simulate the operations of a medium-size manufacturing company.

It is an important link between business and education.

The program originated in Switzerland and is currently running in hundreds of schools around the world.

Over the past three years I have had the honour of being involved as a ‘shareholder’ in their final presentation, along with other local business people such as Ken Mills and Stanwell.

Once again, the students proved an inspiration and demonstrated a great depth of thought, knowledge and great ideas.

Gorgeous South Burnett avocadoes ready for shipping from Touchwood Farm

Avocados Having A Great Year

Right in our own backyard is ‘Touchwood Farming’, near Blackbutt at Mt Binga, owned by Andy and Judy Veal.

They grow avocadoes and last week I had the opportunity to visit their farm and packing facility.

They are having a great 2015, with record prices and record crops.

It’s great to see positivity and success for this excellent local small business.
