Last Saturday the prestigious Champion of Champions competition was held at Murgon.

Seven Burnett clubs competed – Binjour, Gayndah, Kingaroy, Murgon, Nanango, Wondai and Yarraman.

The final between Kingaroy’s Danny Holligan and Bronwyn Grant and Gayndah’s Steve Meyer and Ann Faulkner was a thriller.

Throughout the weekend, both teams had shown great form with comfortable wins in both the quarter and semi-finals.

Kingaroy comfortably beat Yarraman’s John and Jenny Moore 29-11 in the quarter final, and downed Binjour’s Brittany and Anthony Wiley 23-13 to play in the final.

Gayndah’s duo had a comfortable quarter-final also.

They beat Nanango 33-7 and followed that up with a 19-17 win over Wondai’s Evan O’Rourke and Hazel Keding in the semis.

After a run-up like this, Sunday’s final was of a very high standard and turned out to be a thriller.

Nothing separated the teams.

In fact, the contest was so close that after 20 of the regulation 21 ends the score was 19-all.

But a resting toucher by Grant clinched the trophy for Kingaroy.

With only four bowls to be delivered Kingaroy was able to move the kitty behind another bowl, preventing Meyer getting his two last bowls close enough to win the end.

Grant and Holligan ran out winners 20 to 19
