QUT neuroscientist Prof Selena Bartlett will be running a two-hour interactive workshop in Nanango on Thursday (July 23) to help “spark” up our brains.

The NeuroSPARK Labs “brain training” workshop is free, and will be held at the Nanango Cultural Centre from 9:30am.

The former Nanango resident will join with Sheryl Batchelor, an education specialist with 25 years’ experience, to explain how the the latest neuroscience programs can improve learning outcomes in children and PTSD in adults.

The aim is to reduce stress and worry, improve memory, feel better and begin a new lifetime of cognitive fitness.

The workshop will cover:

  • How the brain works
  • Stress, worry and anxiety
  • Practical tools to change your brain
  • How to train your emotional brain

Nanango fitness expert Rod Morgan said Selena would be well-known to older Nanango-ites.

“Prior to marriage to her equally brilliant husband Peter Bartlett, she was better known as Selena Hocart,” he said.

“She is the daughter of well-known former Nanango identities Frank and June Hocart who for many years owned the pharmacy in Drayton Street.

“So to a certain extent Selena is returning home, no doubt to impart some of her knowledge and skills to the town where she did some growing up.”
