South Burnett Mayor Wayne Kratzmann says there is still time to sign up to support the #saveOURhospital campaign.

Mayor Kratzmann is aiming for a target of 5000 submissions to be achieved when the final count begins on Thursday morning.

He said the campaign had gained momentum with submissions being received from across the South Burnett.

“As Mayor it has been great to see the support from the community for #saveOURhospital,” he said.

“It is not only the council who are gathering support for the submissions. The community involvement has been overwhelming.”

He said Megan Blasius, owner of First Ave Store, attended the council meeting last Wednesday and was inspired by the plea for “people power”.

Megan, along with Barbara Eddy, set up a stand in Kingaroy Shoppingworld on Saturday and again on Tuesday collecting signatures for the campaign.

“I have been living in Kingaroy for six years now and have attended this hospital countless times, it has been like a second home to me. I truly can’t fault the services and care that this hospital provides, it is absolutely devastating that it has come to this,” Barbara said.

Mayor Kratzmann said seeing members of the community actively getting involved in the #saveOURhospital demonstrated the issue was one that the community valued and was passionate about.

“There is still time to show your support by signing the submission and I really encourage members of the community across the South Burnett to please sign,” he said.

  • The #saveOURhospital submission is available on the Council website

All signed submissions should be delivered to South Burnett Regional Council Customer Service Centres by close of business 4:30pm on Wednesday, July 22.
