Here’s the fishing report for Boondooma and Bjelke-Petersen dams for the week ending Monday, July 6:

Boondooma Dam

  • Dam Level = 70 per cent

Every day was different. One day you could go out and smash the Bass, but the next it was tough.

Some reports of 50+ cm Bass caught at Pelican Point using tail spinners, but if the Bass were schooled up forget it.

Chasing the fish around the weed banks was the most successful technique.

The Golden Perch were easier to find, and getting them to bite using live bait was as hard as it got.

People were smashing Goldens all over the dam.

There were some reports of good size Saratoga in the river arms on the surface.

Redclaw are still in good numbers for this time of year.

Bjelke-Petersen Dam – Yallakool

  • Dam Level = 51 per cent

A big week for Golden Perch on bait.

Most reports indicated big fish were being caught in the timber with live bait.

Bass were harder to find, but fast burning blades were the most effective in areas such as Bass Point or Lightning Ridge.

Redclaw are still around but are getting hard to find.
