Kingaroy club pairs champions Danny Holligan and Errol Dionysius concluded a successful weekend of bowls at Wondai when they won the 2015 Burnett District Champion of Champions Pairs title.

They had a real nail-biter on Saturday morning when an extra end was required to break the deadlock after the regulation 21 ends

In the afternoon game, they were up against the Gayndah club champions and were again triumphant, progressing to the final against Murgon on Sunday.

Holligan and Dionysius were matched against Aaron Jones and Ray Currie, who were representing Murgon Bowls Club.

A closely-fought game ensued with the Kingaroy duo jumping to a 7-shot lead after 18 of the 21 ends.

The Murgon pair fought hard but the Kingaroy duo ran out winners 21 to 18.

Holligan and Dionysius will now represent the Burnett District in the regional finals against Fraser Coast and Sunshine Coast districts

Yarraman News

Yarraman regained bragging rights for the monthly inter-club clash with Nanango when five rinks competed in their rotational triples clash at Yarraman last week.

There were two games of twelve ends, with scoring two for an end and five for a win.

Some very tight ends were recorded.

But it was a case of horses for courses with Yarraman teams winning and taking out the runners-up title.

George and Glenda Wolski teamed with Rob Douglass to grab the major prize. They scored two wins for 42 points.

Brian and Kay Dugdell teamed with Nev Lawrence to pick up next best, scoring 40 points for their two wins.

Glen Yeates did best of the visitors.

He teamed with Sue Tucker and Brian Havell. scoring 36 points over their two wins.

The Ladies wound up their Championship calendar by playing the Final of their Pairs title on Wednesday.

Helene Johnson and Daphne Stewart defeated Ivy Wrembeck and Kay Dugdell 28-7.

Wednesday was also Trophy Day for the Ladies Club.

In the Championship B Grade Singles, Lew Saunders defeated Bob Hammond 25-16.

And last Friday in Scroungers:

  • Mike Wyvill – 25 pts

On Tuesday, it was the Men’s Social with conditions of play one for an end and four for the win

Sue Tucker and Glen Yeates took the honours with 22 pts.

Next best were Greg Pogson, Ken Stieger and Bob Hall with 17 pts.

Twenty-two players gathered to participate in the regular Thursday competition, with three triples and one pairs matches played, with the scores in three of the four games reflecting the closeness of the competition.

The overall winners were determined with 6 points for a win and one point for each end won.

The ultimate winners were Harry Read, Gladys Slatter and Ray Maclaren with 21 points

Last Saturday the club held a social afternoon of bowls followed by a BBQ in perfect weather.

There were 18 bowlers on the green and they enjoyed a great afternoon of bowls followed by a gourmet BBQ tea. Similar programs will be coming up on the blackboard in future.

Tuesday was a day sponsored by John Svennson, and the event featured extra trophies for Spiders and other novelties. Ian Smith won the Men’s spider and Nelly Herbert won the Women’s.

Touchers were won by Ernie Herbert, Liz Frawley, Dennis Thomson, Grahame Derryman, Margaret Worrall, Darrell Coffee, Nelly Herbert and Bill Edwards.

The highest draw determined the winners on the day.

They were Michael Dunn, Grahame Derryman and Horst Myer, while the runners-up were Denis Thomson, Dave Scott and Wendy Smith.
