A 24-year-old man appeared in Kingaroy Magistrates Court on Monday afternoon on 11 charges after what police allege was a protracted assault on a 22-year-old woman in Kingaroy at the weekend.

The man entered no plea to charges including deprivation of liberty, torture, assault occasioning bodily harm, unlawful wounding, obstructing police, possessing dangerous drugs, failing to dispose of a drug needle, and contravening a domestic violence order.

Kingaroy Magistrates Court was told the man was also wanted on a Return To Prison warrant.

No application was made for bail.

Magistrate Simon Young remanded the man in custody until August 17 for committal mention. He will appear at this sitting via videolink.

Police say that on Sunday morning, a woman presented to Kingaroy Hospital with serious injuries, including apparent stab wounds caused by a knife.

It will be alleged that from about 8:30pm on Saturday until Sunday morning, the woman was held against her will at her home in James Street, Kingaroy, and repeatedly assaulted; on Sunday morning, she managed to flee and attended hospital.

Police then attended the James Street residence.

They say they located a man in the area and chased him over a short distance before arresting him in nearby Kurtellen Crescent.
