Kingaroy detectives are trying to track down a string of stolen items believed to have been sold at a Nanango garage sale this year and through local Facebook “buy, swap & sell” pages.

The items were stolen from a property in Nanango at the beginning of the year.

Senior Constable John Flanagan is anxious to speak to anyone who may have bought any of the following items at a garage sale held at 142 McGillivray Road, Nanango – possibly in February – or from any Facebook “buy, swap & sell” sites.

The items police are looking for are:

  • A canteen of silver cutlery (possibly in a maroon box)
  • Antique dinner service with 18 carat gold edging (possibly a setting for eight people)
  • Antique sewing box on three legs with a chess board on top
  • Antique mirror
  • An automatic survey level in an orange case
  • 2 x antique silver candle holders, to hold three candles
  • Singer sewing machine (treadle in table)
  • 2 x three-drawer bedside tables
  • Outdoor table setting made of solid red gum (table and two large bench seats)
  • Antique three-legged table (more than 100 years old)
  • 4 x steel-framed work benches on roller wheels and ply shelving
  • 3-4 boxes of pots, pans and kitchen utensils
  • 2 x sets of heads to a V8 motor (wrapped in plastic)
  • High tensile chains
  • Carburettor

Snr Const Flanagan said some of the items were valuable while others had strong sentimental value for the family involved.

He said if anyone had bought these items, they should contact the Kingaroy CIB on (07) 4160-4900.

Snr Const Flanagan said police were not interested in charging anyone with possessing stolen property, they just wanted to retrieve these items so they could be returned to their owner.

He said this case was a good example of why South Burnett residents should be wary of apparent bargains on Facebook “buy swap & sell” pages.

“These internet sites are getting used to get rid of a lot of stolen property,” he said.

Snr Const Flanagan said there had been many local cases where stolen goods had been sold to unwary buyers, who had no chance of getting their money back.

One Response to "Police Hunt Stolen Items"

  1. On the Nanango / Kingaroy Buy Sell Site there was an orange survey level also a Singer sewing machine in cabinet in last week. I have looked for them to get a name, but must have been sold. Maybe admin on site would remember. Also 2 silver 3 hole candle holders
