The South Burnett Regional Council will hold a series of public consultation meetings next week to gather community input on the design of the Kingaroy to Murgon section of the Kingaroy-Kilkivan Rail Trail.
Consultation meetings will be held at Kingaroy, Memerambi, Wooroolin, Tingoora, Wondai and Murgon on May 11-15.
The Council and rail trail consultant Mike Halliburton are encouraging community members to drop in and discuss the project with them.
“Communicating with individuals, community groups, adjoining landowners and other key stakeholders is an important step in realising this project,” Mayor Wayne Kratzmann said.
“This consultation is in addition to conversations members of Council have already had with a number of adjoining landholders over the last month.”
The purpose of the meetings is to collect ideas from the community so a Project Plan for the trail’s construction can be developed.
The meetings will include photographic material and artist impressions of elements from other successful rail trails around Australia and New Zealand.
They will also include some photos of the Kingaroy to Murgon corridor as it currently exists, together with artist’s impressions of what they might look like after construction.
“We want to show how the rail trail might look to stimulate ideas and discussion,” Mayor Kratzmann said.
“People who attend will have the opportunity to have their ideas help shape the trail’s future development.”
The information that is gathered will form the basis for construction work that will enable the trail to be used by cyclists and walkers.
“It will also provide detailed construction requirements and cost estimates for items such as trail surfacing, trailhead facilities, trailside furniture, road crossings and creek crossings,” he said.
“We have a funding allocation for the work from the State Government that we need to stick to.”

- Kingaroy – May 11-12 at Kingaroy Shoppingworld, 8:30am to 5:00pm
- Memerambi – May 13 on the footpath outside the One Stop Shop, 8:00am to 10:00am
- Wooroolin – May 13 at park opposite the Post Office near the playground, 11:00am to 1:00pm
- Tingoora – May 13 at Tingoora Park opposite the Tingoora Hotel, 2:00pm to 4:00pm
- Wondai – May 14 on the footpath outside Wondai IGA, 9:00am to 5:00pm
- Murgon – May 15 next to the bakery in Lamb Street, 9:00am to 5:00pm
