Here’s the weekly fishing report for Boondooma and Bjelke-Petersen dams for the week ending Monday, March 18:

Boondooma Dam

  • Dam Level = 70 per cent

The cold weather is upon us and some people have been telling me the fish have developed tight lip syndrome. But the ones that put in the effort got rewarded.

The water temperature has dropped to about 19 degrees and when this stabilises the winter bite will be awesome. But until then, live bait is still the
best choice for the bigger fish.

With the water level going up around 2 per cent after the recent rain, the redclaw have improved and some people are getting big numbers of them.

Bjelke-Petersen Dam – Yallakool

  • Dam Level = 52 per cent

Good sized Bass and Goldens are still being caught but patience is required.

Tail spinners and soft plastics are still catching plenty of fish around the flats but most of these are small fish.

Ice jigs will start to work over the next few weeks as the water temperatures start to stabilise.

Redclaw are still around but you have to work a little harder to get them.
